Use the 'dd' command to copy the image onto the memory stick. Once you have the bootable image on the memory stick, follow these steps to boot the image on the development board: 1) Insert the stand-offs in the bottom of the board so that the board will not make contact with your work surface. 2) Install the serial cable and the power switch (see the figure below). 3) Plug in a VGA monitor and a keyboard. 4) Plug the power supply into the wall. 5) Apply power to the board. While the BIOS boot is occurring, press to enter BIOS setup. 6) Disable the "Built-in EFI Shell" under "Boot" in the setup menu in "Boot Option Priorities". 7) Save your changes and exit the BIOS. 8) Hold down the power button for four seconds to power the board off. 9) Insert the USB memory stick. 10) Plug the USB-to-Serial cable into the USB port on the laptop. 11) Configure a terminal emulator on your laptop to use the new USB serial device at 115200 8N1 with no handshaking / flow control. 12) Press the power button to turn on the board. You should see serial output streamed to the terminal emulator. 13) Login using "root" with no password.
